Ms.Ramya S, is working as a Senior Optometrist, Sankara Nethralaya, Medical Research Foundation, Chennai and Lecturer Elite School of Optometry, Chennai. She is also a doctoral researcher at SASTRA Deemed University, Thanjavur. She has completed her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at Elite School of Optometry affiliated to BITS Pilani, Rajasthan. As an Optometrist, she has a clinical experience of about 10 years in diagnostic techniques such as Ocular Electrophysiology and Optical Coherence Tomography and had seen more than 10,000 patients. Apart from routine optometric examination, she has a years experience in low vision care clinic. She has about 9 years of teaching experience and handled/handles courses such as Ocular Diseases, Optometric Instrumentation, Ocular Anatomy and Physiology, Geriatric Optometry and few Optics related topics for undergraduate and postgraduate Optometry students. She is also part of book chapters and had given guest lectures in the field of Ocular Electrodiagnostics. She also guides undergraduate and postgraduate students in various clinical projects apart from training optometrists in electrodiagnostics clinic. She has published around 10 articles in national and international journals. She was a part of DST funded project in the development of low cost sweep VEP system (sweep Visual Evoked Potential is an instrument for quick objective quantification of visual acuity). Her current area of interest is falls due to visual impairment and its prevention strategies. Falls are the second leading cause of unintentional injury worldwide and visual impairment is one of the major risk factors. Based on the hospital based prevalence of falls, she is interested to design multifactorial falls intervention program in India.

    Visual Electrophysiology Made Simple for the Postgraduates

    Visual electrophysiology is an extremely useful tool to study the retinal function objectively. It assesses the functional aspects of not only the retina but also the visual pathway as a whole. Even in this era of advanced imaging, one cannot ignore the importance of the functional aspects of the cellular network in the retina.
