Dr Ronnie George completed his medical graduate degree from St John's Medical College, Bangalore in and trained in ophthalmology at the Christian Medical College Vellore (1996-2001. He subsequently joined Sankara Nethralaya, Medical Research Foundation, Chennai where he is the Research Director of the organization, and Deputy Director of the glaucoma services at Medical Research Foundation. He has trained over 60 glaucoma fellows and is guide for PHD, DNB and MPhil programs. He has published over 125 peer reviewed indexed articles, 1 book and 12 book chapters. He has delivered more than 250 lectures at various conferences as an invited guest speaker. He was received the Thiru CK.Kumaraswamy Gold Medal by the Dr MGR Medical University for MS Ophthalmology. He was awarded the Thomas Gold Medal for the best outgoing postgraduate in ophthalmology by the Christian Medical College Vellore in 2001. He received the Pfizer best paper award for best research work presented at the XIIIth Annual Glaucoma Society Of India meeting 2003. He received the Ruby Banik award for best researcher by the Vision Research Foundation, Chennai, the Dr TLK Row Endowment award for best Associate Consultant Medical Research Foundation and the IJO silver award for best publication in 2009. He is a past Associate Advisory Board member for the World Glaucoma Association and is past Secretary of the Glaucoma Society of India. He currently serves on the Education Committee of the World Glaucoma Association, the Editorial board of the Journal of Glaucoma and is the Section editor (Glaucoma) for the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology.
