Dr. Archana Rajamani completed her medical degree at Devaraj URS Medical College in 2008. She earned the Diplomate of National Board of Examination, New Delhi, in 2013 and she was awarded MRCS in 2022. In 2023, she completed her fellowship in Surgical Retina and Vitreous at Aravind Eye Hospital, Chennai. She has been working as a Medical Consultant in Vitreo-Retina services at Aravind Eye Hospital since then. She is an active member of the All-India Ophthalmological Society, Tamil Nadu Ophthalmic Association, and Vitreo-Retina Society of India. She has presented research papers and posters at various state, national, and international conferences. She is also engaged in training postgraduate and fellowship students in ophthalmology, along with mid-level ophthalmic personnel.

    Instrumentation for IOFB removal

    Removal of a retained intraocular foreign body (IOFB) is one of the very few ophthalmic emergencies which can cause a nightmare like situation at times even for an experienced surgeon. Careful evaluation and meticulous planning can help us achieve good anatomical and functional outcomes in these complex scenarios. It is extremely important to choose the right instrument for removal of IOFB based on its size, shape & nature. This will minimize any unnecessary prolonged maneuvers and also minimize trauma to the surrounding tissues. Here, we will focus on instrumentation that are available and needed for various posterior segment IOFB.
